What is web development?
Exactly web development is the creation, construction, and upkeep of websites, encompassing tasks such as web design, web publishing, web programming, and database management. It is the process of developing internet-based applications, commonly known as websites, that can be accessed over the internet.
Why is web development so important?
Web development can be classified into 2 types, which include:
- Frontend Development: Front-end development is the term used to describe the part of web development that deals with the client-facing or user-interface side of a website or application. Front-end web development is concerned with the creation of the parts of a digital product that users will see and interact with. A Front-End Developer, who is also commonly referred to as a Web Designer, is responsible for how a website or application looks and feels. Front-end developers are responsible for translating website design and visual ideas into code. They act as a bridge between design and technology by programming design ideas into reality. The main programming languages that front-end developers need to be proficient in include HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with frameworks like React, Bootstrap, Backbone, AngularJS, and EmberJS. A front-end developer's responsibilities include creating responsive websites that work well on any device, conducting website testing, fixing any bugs, and ensuring the site structure follows SEO best practices.
- Backend Development:Back-End Developers are responsible for the functionality of a digital product, as opposed to its appearance. They focus on creating the basic structure of a website or application, maintaining it, and ensuring that it works correctly. This includes tasks such as database interactions, user authentication, server configuration, network management, and business logic. Back-End Developers work behind the scenes and are concerned with the systems and structures that allow computer applications to perform as expected. The primary responsibility of a Back-End Developer is to ensure that a site functions correctly, is responsive, and loads quickly. They achieve this by building servers with modern frameworks, developing custom APIs, and serving static websites and files. Back-End Developers typically use server-side programming languages, such as PHP, Ruby, and Python, and tools such as MySQL, Oracle, and Git.
full stack developer
A full stack developer is a versatile software developer who has the skills to work on both the client-side (front end) and server-side (back end) of web application development. They are highly valued for their ability to handle a wide range of tasks, making them "jacks of all trades" in the industry.
Full stack developers have proficiency in various coding languages, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Python, Bootstrap, Github, jQuery, APIs, MongoDB, and Django, among others, depending on their training and experience. They possess a broad range of knowledge across various development languages and aspects, making them T-shaped developers. This means they have specialized skills in some specific areas, along with generalized skills across an area.
